Located on beautiful Chincoteague Island, we churn out frozen desserts daily in small batches right in our shop. We use an all-natural premium butterfat mix from Lancaster County cows ensuring a rich, creamy ice cream. Inspiration for flavors come from the local fruit available to us or from tasty inclusions made in our kitchen. Since 1975, our family has served the Island and its neighboring communities as well as countless visitors. We also offer lattes and other espresso based beverages. Closed only for Thanksgiving and Christmas day, you can count on us to be here. We are open from 11 AM to 9 PM Sunday-Thursday and until 10 PM on Friday and Saturday. We offer extra parking behind the Creamery which can be accessed by the alley on the East side of our store or by the Taylor Street entrance (Taylor Street runs parallel with Maddox Blvd). If you want to bring a group please contact us to ensure sufficient staffing. We also offer free wireless internet.
A Brief history of Island Creamery
Started in 1975 by Bob & Nancy Conklin, parents of the current owners, Kelly and his wife Robin, the Creamery continues to serve delicious frozen treats to locals and visitors alike. The original part of the building was once a pool hall and was located across from the Fire House downtown. The Conklins moved the building to the current Maddox Blvd. location in the Spring of 1975 and opened a candy store known as Mr. Chocolate. Ice Cream was added the following year. The Creamery has been renovated and added onto through the years and now is instantly recognizable by the Lighthouse portion of the building. The Creamery offers indoor and outdoor deck seating. Drew, Cole, and Courtney Conklin are the third generation of family members to be involved at the Creamery. The Creamery is open daily except for Thanksgiving and Christmas day.
